| Greetings ISSA Shooters!
We are well into our shooting
season. I hope you are shooting well and have had an
opportunity to enjoy one of the Regional matches.
One of the exciting things
happening in the ISSA is the implementation of our new
web page. It is not quite complete yet, but we are up
and running. It can be accessed at www.issa-schuetzen.com
or www.issa-schuetzen.org . It is our hope this new
tool will help disseminate information to our members
and others that are interested in our sport. We welcome
any comments on improving this site. Check it out.
Once again we are going
to conduct an ISSA raffle at the International Match.
This year we will sell three hundred tickets at $25.00
each. First prize will be a Ballard Rifle Hi Wall, second
prize will be a Keith Kilby knife and third prize will
be some Hodgden powder. This year we have changed the
raffle format. It will be a straight drawing instead
of a reverse raffle.
In our last newsletter we
presented a number of issues that was of concern to
some of our shooters. We solicited input from you in
order to help the Directors make decisions. We received
comments from about 10% of our members. As can be expected
the responses we received run a whole spectrum of ideas.
The Directors have reviewed
the responses and have made the following decisions
on each issue.
Issue 1: The suggestion
to allow 22 rimfire rifles to compete with centerfire
rifles in the same match.
Decision: As per
our rules rimfires will be welcomed in all matches except
for 25 cal. matches. Bullet holes will be scored from
the center of the hole.
Issue 2: Issue concerning
safety on the firing line. Most of the complaints were
concerned with rifles and people at the bench when people
are down range.
Decision: We will
enforce our safety rules. Any time any person is down
range firearms will not be allowed on the bench or if
there are firearms on the benches shooters will not
be allowed to touch any firearm. Enclosed are new standardized
range rules.
Issue 3: A number
of our shooters no longer shoot the offhand matches
and have suggested having additional bench matches.
Decision: We will
provide additional bench matches provided someone volunteers
to take the leadership to run the matches. Prizes will
be a portion of the entry fees. Entry fees will be $25.00.
We will return $5.00 from each entry for prize money.
All participants must pay and register at the same time
they register for other matches. Shooters will provide
scoring for targets. The match will run concurrent with
offhand matches.
Issue 4: The suggestion
to schedule the Iron Sights Offhand match first to see
if we can pick up additional shooters from the Black
Powder Silhouette Match.
Decision: We have
moved the Iron Sights Bench Match to Monday. If Black
Powder shooters want to hold over they are welcome.
Issue 5: The complaint
about the movement of automobiles between the building
and the firing line and a suggestion to gate the ends
of the building.
Decision: We could
not come up with any solution that did not have some
penalty to some shooters. For the time being we have
decided not to gate the driveway and try to improve
the situation by monitoring and encouraging users to
be efficient and considerate of other shooters.
Issue 6: Allegations
about some shooters stretching the intent of the rule
for tight clothing.
Decision: We will
enforce existing rules. Essentially, if tight clothing
is worn only during the shooting period it is probably
used to enhance performance and is exceeding the intent
of the rule. The Schuetzenmeister or appointee will
make final decision. This issue was about compliance
with our rules. There are some who would like the rule
change to remove the restriction of no tight clothing.
To resolve this issue we will once again put it up for
a vote.
Issue 7: Complaints
on the inequity of prize distribution.
Decision: We will
award prizes, in each relay, to the top shooters to
as many places as we can. We will hold back some prizes
for door prizes to be won by drawing.
Issue 8: Suggestion
to provide more shooting for the youth. We will not
provide additional matches for the youth. We do encourage
youth participation. We are considering reduced costs
for youth and to provide metals and or a certificate
to all shooting youth.
Issue 9: There has
been a suggestion to reduce the match to four days.
Decision: We moved
the start of the centerfire matches to Monday and moved
the schedule for pistol and .25 cal matches. This will
allow for a four-day match for those that want it.
Issue 10: There has
been a suggestion to move the Championship Match to
different locations around the country.
Decision: We are
going to form a committee to begin looking for alternate
locations.
Some other issues that we
are dealing with that may be of interest. We are considering
requiring all shooters shooting in ISSA sanctioned matches
to be an ISSA member. Currently we allow nonmembers
to shoot with out membership in Regional matches. We
are considering a reduced cost membership for those
that shoot only in Regional matches.
In the past we have allowed
some shooters at their request change relays to allow
for the sharing of equipment. In order to have true
shoulder- to -shoulder matches we are no longer going
to allow this practice. For those wishing to share equipment
they will have to arrange it in such a manner as not
interfere with assigned relay.
To put on a great match
it takes a great deal of work and energy. We only accomplish
this through the generous help of volunteers. Once again
we will need help. Areas we need help are, Range Officers,
Range Assistants, meal set up, serving, cleanup and
a Scribe for gift presentations. If youre willing
to help we will have sign up sheets posted in the pavilion.
We will again have a suggestion
box for your comments. We appreciate any comments that
will help improve the ISSA. Looking forward to seeing
at the International Match.
Sincerely, Ron
